Online Seminar,
Sagar Watch/ In the present era, it is necessary that we should not remember Savitribai Phule just as a noun, but see and remember her as a verb. As a keynote speaker, these thoughts were presented by renowned linguist and feminist thinker Prof.Sandhya Singh from the National Council of Educational Research and Training, Delhi.
On the occasion of the 192nd birth anniversary of Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule, an online national lecture on the topic 'Women, Education and We' was organized at the Sociology Teaching-Learning Center (Savitribai Phule Bhavan) of Dr Harisingh Gour University, Sagar.
Pro. Singh presented a vignette of the entire period from 1848 to 1897. Drawing attention to the current situation, he quoted some figures, saying that 26 per cent of girls drop out of school only because the school environment is not good, 46 per cent of girls are dropped out of school by their parents, 9 out of 10 Girls are not able to complete primary education.
Due to such circumstances, one has to think that what happened that women and girls who earlier came on the streets during Gandhiji's Salt Satyagraha and Dandi March are now unable to feel comfortable even inside the four walls of the school.
Pro. Singh further tells that a language is a great tool to understand the development of any nation, and to understand the better development of a country, there is no better tool for women than the language used there. Because language is also linked to that feeling of ours.
Therefore, it is the main task of the education world to make women travel from 'they' to we. Another important point related to this is that questioning is not only about being logical, but questioning is also about being modern. Questioning is also a sign of coming from 'they' to 'we'.
Along with this, Dr Santosh Sohgaura, Registrar-In-charge of Dr Harisingh Gaur University, Student Welfare Dean Prof. Ambika Dutt Sharma, Coordinator of Social Science Teaching Learning Center Dr Sanjay Sharma, and a large number of teachers, research scholars and students from various departments of the University also participated in the programme.
The program was coordinated by Dr Afreen Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, University.
