International Mother Language Day-Exploitations can be avoided by saving tribal languages

Sagar Watch/ A three-day workshop has begun on the occasion of the 24th International Mother Language Day, on the topic of 'Development of electronic text material for adult education in tribal languages of Madhya Pradesh' under the joint auspices of Dr Harisingh Gour University's Social Science Teaching Learning Center, National Literacy Center and National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi.

At the beginning of the workshop, Dr Sanjay Sharma told that the National Education Policy 2020 talks about four curriculum formats.

This workshop is an extension of that. In which we are going to discuss the curriculum development in the tribal languages of Madhya Pradesh. According to him, language is the human capital which transmits the rich cultural heritage to us.

Citing some statistics, he expressed concern about the extinction of languages in India and the world. He said that the tribal community has a rich wealth of medical practices and knowledge and it can be saved only when we save all the tribal languages used by these people. Universities are the only places where these languages can survive and prosper.

In this connection, Jyoti Tiwari, Project Fellow, National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi, said that tribals have a rich store of knowledge which should be conveyed to the common people.

The chief guest of the workshop, Dr Manish Verma said in his seed statement that the correct output of the literacy campaign can come out only from the coordinated efforts of both the learner and the teacher. These processes need to be completed within a fixed time limit.

Professor Brajesh Kumar Srivastava said in his presidential address that nothing available in this nature is useless. Everything has a meaning. We have gone away from these nature-given things and this rich culture but the tribals have still preserved it.

He said that since language is related to culture, these tribal languages have to be saved. This is also important because the proverbs/sayings prevalent in these languages also say a lot about the exploitation of the toiling people by the owners despite the hard work done by them. Therefore, by saving these languages, exploitation can also be avoided.

A total of three technical sessions were organized in the workshop. In the second technical session, Bhawna Khera discussed the important points of the National Education Policy in the context of adult education and in the third technical session a presentation was given by Himanshi Goyal on the role of information and communication technology in adult education.
