Stranded in Maharashtra, 19 tribal laborers from village Papet of Shahgarh development block have been freed through the efforts of the district administration.

Sagar Collector said that, Anrat Adivasi and Laxman Adivasi of village Papet of Shahgarh had complained that their family members were taken by some people from Parbhani district of Maharashtra to harvest sugarcane by assuring that they would not be given any labor related to sugarcane. Good wages will be provided in return for the work.

The Collector said that taking immediate action on the complaint of the victims, the City Magistrate contacted the Maharashtra Police and made efforts to bring those laborers back to Sagar.

Complainants Anrat Adivasi and Laxman Adivasi, residents of Papet, said that their family members - men and women - were taken to village Papet in two vehicles after promising them wages at the rate of Rs 600 per tonne, proper living arrangements and providing raw ration. Took to Tehsil Shahgarh, Parbhani Maharashtra.

There the contractor asked the workers to build huts and live in the sugarcane field of village Mogra and started harvesting sugarcane in the field.

But when the contractor asked for money for ration and wages, he refused and behaved rudely.



City Magistrate said that the Collector also took the help of Sagar and members of Jan Sahas and Vikas Mandal organization in Maharashtra in this work.

He told that all 19 tribal laborer brothers and sisters came to Sagar safely. On reaching Sagar, he was given Tilak Tilak by the Collector in-charge at the Collectorate office and welcomed him with a bunch of flowers. He told that everyone has been taken to their home village in a special vehicle.
