Sagar Watch News/ On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, 14 child marriages were stopped in the district. This work was done under the ongoing child marriage prohibition campaign with the joint efforts of the Women and Child Development Department, Police, Child Line, Kailash Satyarthi Foundation, and aware citizens from across the district.
District Program Officer Brijesh Tripathi said that these groups reached the mass marriage programs organized at different places in a planned manner. There the team members checked the age documents of the bride and groom.
In 14 cases, when child marriage was found, the family members were explained on the spot not to perform child marriage. Also, child marriage should be stopped with mutual consent by giving information about the adverse effects of child marriage and legal provisions.
This action was taken in Jalandhar Temple, Jaruakheda, Baghraj Temple, Karrapur, Nayakheda, and Narayawali. Project Officer Shashikant Nayak, Sonam Namdev, Vijay Jain, Sadhna Khatik, and Jyoti Tiwari of the Juvenile Police Unit along with Child Line in-charge Kalpana Sahu and related supervisors, Anganwadi worker assistants were present in the prevention of child marriage.
