In the light of orders of the Honourable High Court of Madhya Pradesh, a high level meeting was held between Truck and School Bus Union Operators and Additional Chief Secretary Home, Secretary Transport in order to end the strike of truck drivers protesting against the new legal provision regarding Hit and Run law.

Dr. Rajoura and senior officials informed the representatives of truck, school and bus operator unions about the provisions, clarified the conditions and called upon them to cooperate with the Government and continue services and end the strike.

Additional Chief Secretary Home Dr. Rajesh Rajoura said that Union representatives have been informed about the proposed laws. He said that the amount of fine has not been specifically mentioned in Section 106 (2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Samhita, the publicity regarding the provision of fine of Rs 7 lakh or Rs 10 lakh is misleading and false. He said that if the driver timely informs the police about the death in accident, then there is a provision of bail in the new law.

Dr. Rajoura said that in Section 106 (2) of the proposed Bhartiya Nyay Samhita, maximum punishment of 10 years has been mentioned only in that situation and no minimum punishment has been defined, when a motor vehicle driver is involved in a road accident and after death of the person flees the spot without informing the police or magistrate.

If a person meets with an accident and informs the police or magistrate in this regard, then the provisions of Section 106(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Samhita do not apply to him. It has also been clarified that the punishment mentioned in the law is determined by the Honourable Court after following legal process.
